What does a website
cost in 2026?

The same five-page website can cost a few hundred euros in one place and nearly ten thousand in another. This guide covers what makes up the price, the typical price ranges and what a site costs in total after three or five years of use.

What makes up the price of a website

The price of a website is made up of five separate cost items, which different providers bundle in different ways. When you compare quotes, check which of these are included in the price and which are billed separately.

  • Design. The look, the site structure and how visitors are guided towards getting in touch. Usually the biggest item in working hours, and the one where quotes differ the most.
  • Build. Turning the design into a working website: code or a content management system, the mobile version, forms and technical SEO.
  • Content. Copy and images. Many quotes assume you will supply them ready-made. If you can't, a copywriter and a photographer are budget lines of their own.
  • Technology. Domain, hosting, SSL certificate and email. Small sums on their own, but they keep running for as long as the site is live.
  • Maintenance. Updates, backups, security and small copy changes. This is the item most often forgotten when comparing quotes.

In a one-off project, the first four are paid up front and the fifth keeps running. In a monthly service, all five are in the same monthly price. Neither model is automatically cheaper. What decides it is how many years the site will be in use.

Price ranges in Finland in 2026

These figures are public list prices from Finnish providers, collected in September 2026. They are ranges, not quotes: the final price depends on the number of pages, the amount of content and how much design work is done from scratch.

DIY website builder, €10-30/month

You build the site yourself on a ready-made template and pay a monthly fee for the platform. It is the cheapest way to get an address online. The price doesn't include your own time, and with this option that is the biggest cost. Putting together a first version usually takes a few evenings, and the result depends on how much time you have to polish it.

Small one-off project, €500-1,500

A freelancer or small agency builds a site of 1 to 5 pages for a one-off fee. The work is professional and the price stays reasonable. Two things are worth checking: whether content is included in the price and what happens after launch. Maintenance and changes are almost always a separate agreement.

Agency project, €2,500-10,000

A designer, a developer and a project manager, a kick-off meeting and several rounds of comments. The price is justified when the website has real work to do: an online store, an extensive service structure, integrations or a rebrand at the same time. For a five-page brochure site, it is overkill.

Monthly service, €49-169/month

Website, hosting and maintenance in one monthly price, with no large upfront invoice. For a small business owner it is the easiest model for cash flow, but the terms vary a lot. Check the contract length, what the monthly fee covers and what happens to the price after the first term. With some services the monthly fee stays the same even after the build has been paid for several times over.

Maintenance on its own, €25-50/month

For a site bought as a one-off project, maintenance is usually sold on top: updates, backups, security and small copy changes. This line is easy to miss when comparing quotes, even though it adds up to €900-1,800 over three years.

Domain, €10-20/year

A domain is a small cost, but check whose name it is registered in. If it is in the agency's name, moving your website elsewhere later can be difficult.

Hidden costs to watch out for

The list price and the final invoice don't always match. Four things explain most of the difference.

  • Setup fees. Monthly-priced services often have a separate setup fee of €300-900. It doesn't show in the monthly price, but it does show on the first invoice.
  • Rates for extra work. Changes billed by the hour are standard practice in the industry. Ask in advance about the hourly rate and whether a started hour is billed in full.
  • Buyout terms. In some contracts the website remains the provider's property and leaving costs extra, typically €500. Ask directly whether you can take the website files with you at no extra cost.
  • Long fixed terms. A two- or three-year fixed-term contract binds you even when your business changes. Check how long the fixed term is and what the notice period is once it ends.

These terms are common in the industry and rarely a sign of dishonesty. The problem only arises when you discover them after signing, so ask for the quote in writing and read it through at your own pace.

What a website costs over 1, 3 and 5 years

The one-off price only tells part of the story. A website is in use for years, so it makes sense to compare the cost over its whole lifetime. The totals include maintenance but not the domain or the value of your own time.

Total cost of a website over one, three and five years, excl. VAT
Option1 year3 years5 years
DIY website builder (€10-30/month)€120-360€360-1,080€600-1,800
Small one-off project + maintenance (€500-1,500 and €25-50/month)€800-2,100€1,400-3,300€2,000-4,500
Agency project + maintenance (€2,500-10,000 and €25-50/month)€2,800-10,600€3,400-11,800€4,000-13,000
Monthly service (€49-149/month)€588-1,788€1,764-5,364€2,940-8,940
Sivustudio Basic (€60/month → €15/month)€720€1,080€1,440
Sivustudio Growth (€120/month)€1,440€4,320€7,200

Two things stand out in the table. A one-off project catches up with monthly services in about three years, if maintenance stays at the lower end of the range. And the total price of a monthly service depends almost entirely on whether the monthly fee drops once the build has been paid for.

When it is worth paying more

The cheapest option isn't always the right one. A bigger budget makes sense when the site has an online store, dozens of pages, integrations with a booking system or customer database, or when you are continuously working to grow your visibility. A small site can manage with less when 1 to 5 pages are enough, the content rarely changes and the goal is to be found on Google and get enquiries.

How our own pricing works

This guide was written by Sivustudio, so we set out our own pricing in as much detail as the options above.

  • Basic from €60/month: 1 to 5 pages, design and build included. The first year is a fixed 12-month term, after which maintenance is €15/month with one month's notice.
  • Growth from €120/month: 5 to 10 pages, AI search optimisation, a monthly report, three hours of changes and one new page a month.
  • Online store from €125/month, SEO from €99/month, Google Ads €149/month and Revdot AI chat from €99/month, all from the same team.
  • No setup fee, no buyout fee. The website, content and domain are yours. Larger changes €60/h + VAT, always agreed in advance. Prices excl. VAT.

FAQ

Three questions we hear again and again

You'll find the rest of the answers on our FAQ page.

How much does a website cost?

In Finland in 2026, the most common price ranges are: a DIY website builder at €10-30/month if you build the site yourself, a small one-off project at €500-1,500, an agency project at €2,500-10,000 and a monthly service at €49-149/month. For a small business website of 1 to 5 pages, the lower end of the range is enough. The Sivustudio Basic plan is €60/month for the first year and €15/month after that, so €1,080 + VAT over three years.

What does website maintenance cost?

Bought separately, maintenance in Finland typically costs €25-50/month and covers updates, backups, security and small copy changes. The domain adds roughly €10-20 a year. At Sivustudio, maintenance is €15/month after the first year and includes hosting, technical maintenance and one hour of changes a month.

What does an online store cost?

As a one-off project, €3,000-15,000 with maintenance on top. On a monthly basis, Finnish providers charge €239-249/month for a small store. The Sivustudio online store starts from €125/month, including adding 30 products, payments and shipping.
